London is one of the major holiday destinations in the world. The city has left no stone unturned to offer unlimited entertainment to visitors. However, exorbitantly priced entry tickets to the most popular tourist attractions of the city including Westminster Abbey, London Bridge, the London Eye, and featured exhibits at the various museums and art galleries of the city can be a little off-putting. The city has acquired the notorious reputation of being an overpriced tourist destination.

To provide some relief to visitors who cannot afford to spend at the various expensive tourist attractions, the city offers many free fun attractions that are worth enjoying.

  1. London’s famous Kensington Gardens that face Kensington Palace offer free admission to visitors. The gardens do not offer many activities to enjoy as does the neighbouring Hyde Park but this is where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll in scenic surroundings and calm ambiance. The walking paths in Kensington Gardens are blissfully tranquil and visitors can enjoy birdwatching, picnicking and sunbathing in the park. The Albert Memorial and the statue of Peter Pan are popular attractions in this Royal Park. At different times of the year exciting events, such as live music, are organized here. The nearest tube stations are Knightsbridge, Lancaster Gate and Marble Arch.
  2. One of the popular activities that visitors can enjoy without paying a penny is the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace. The ceremony throws light on the ancient Royal tradition and pomp and pageantry of London. It is advised to reach there before time to get a place that offers excellent views of the ongoing tradition. It is performed twice a day in the summer season while in other seasons it is carried out every other day. You can reach there via Green Park or Victoria Station.
  3. Music lovers can have great time in London. Royal Opera House located in the fashionable Covent Garden area is an excellent venue where many visitors enjoy the wonderful operatic performances. The entry to these performances is very expensive. But, do not fret as you can enjoy lunchtime recitals and rehearsals that are free of charge at the Opera. The closest tube station is Covent Garden while Holborn and Leicester Square also offer easy access to Royal Opera House.
  4. Last but not the least; you can see the vast array of paintings housed in the National Gallery without any fee. These paintings belong to the 1300s to the 1900s and showcase Londoners love for art. You can view paintings by some of the greatest artists of the history including da Vinci, Van Eyck, Monet, Michelangelo, and Cezanne.
