The video shows a short golf trip in February 2013 to Golf de Wimereux located just 20 minutes from Calais and the Eurotunnel. France offers the opportunity to combine your passion for golf with an idyllic holiday destination. Why not rent a lovely villa, pack up the clubs and hit the road.

Here is a guide to what is available in France for the golfing fanatic.

There are a range of different courses on offer that are designed to test and challenge you no matter what level your skills are at. Of course, one of the most important things to make sure of is that the courses you choose are open to the public as some courses are members only.

  • The Golf Moliet course is located between Bordeaux and Biarritz. It is a remarkable course laid out in the pine forests of Les Landes and on the coast. They offer the option of nine holes or eighteen and is said to provide a challenge to even the most proficient golfer.
  • Pau Golf Club was founded in 1856 making it the oldest golf club in Continental Europe located in the foothills of the Pyrenees.  It not only offers the chance to play golf but also to get a real taste of the history of the sport. The pau clubhouse is one of the best buildings in the province and the place tries extremely hard to keep the history of the place alive.
  • The Seignosse golf course is a 45 minute drive away from Biarritz and is definitely worth the journey. It is a course that should be tackled at least once by any keen golfer with its tight fairways, island greens and deep bunkers are sure to give you a great golfing experience.
  • Golf De Fontainebleau is a beautiful golf course located in near Paris. It is one of the most famous courses in France and provides golfers with a golfing adventure in stunning surroundings.
  • Orleans Limereis located in Jura in the North East of France and features some of the fantastic lakes that the area offers. The course itself is laid out fairly simply so as not to detract from the pleasantness of the surroundings but the challenge here is presented by the natural obstacles.

Whichever golf course you choose there is a great range of accommodation options to choose from to really enhance your stay. Perhaps the most popular approach is to stay in a Villa in France or a cottage.  Self-catering accommodation makes your holiday relaxing and enjoyable as you can return from a day of golfing to accommodation that offers all the comforts of home. Many self-catering accommodation options in France offer properties on a price- by- night basis meaning that you could even organise a tour of a selection of different courses and always have a delightful place to come to home to.
