From the amphitheatre to the ancient theatre this Provence town is famous for its history as well as its connection to the artist Vincent Van Gogh. From UNESCO World Heritage Sights to viewing Van Gogh’s Paintings Arles has so much in it that you need more than a day trip to take it all in.
Arles is most famous for its Roman amphitheater, still intact, and its connections with Van Gogh, who spent one of his final years here painting 200 canvases. Its real appeal, however, is found in the lovely pedestrian promenades, historic landmarks, museums and tranquil plazas, all of which make Arles one of the most charming places in Europe.
