This was a long running BBC series. The best way to go across North America in 1980 was by train. However it is worth noting this journey cannot be duplicated today as the Broadway limited stopped running in 1995. Today you cross upstate New York via Albany and Buffalo, rather than crossing Pennsylvania through Harrisburg and Pittsburgh.
